Introduction:
At the end of every school year we take the time to reflect on what was successful and what was frustrating about teaching seniors. The one thing that has consistently disappointed us is the number of seniors who graduate and return for a visit and unveil that they are doing absolutely nothing. Typically the kids who were good students and had the tools to achieve something better for themselves are the ones who sputter out the fastest. Surprisingly, most seniors don’t grasp just how much foresight needs to go into planning their momentary escape from Southern Maryland. As a result we’ve come up with a plan for getting you organized and pointed in the right direction.
Part One: Your Dream Job
Step One: The first part of this assignment requires you to describe your dream job? (something more than working at the Verizon outlet over the bridge). Nothing is out of reach with this part. If you have an inkling to play in the NBA or take over as marketing director at Google, then so be it. In 100-200 words tell us what your perception of this job—Why do you want to do this?
Step Two: Research the job. Find two to four credible sources that can truly give you the ins and outs of this career choice. Email Vince McMahon, Interview the Solomon’s Fire Chief, read how to books, surf the net . . . they are all feasible sources. It needs to be 100-200 words and be sure to sight your sources properly by using a Works Cited page
Step Three: Here’s where you compare and contrast your assumptions (Step One) with your research (Step Two) and share the results. What will you need to do in order to do this; i.e., training, travel, education, Mr. Sexton.
